Pick and Pack
The pick and pack process is made a great deal easier by the combination of ASN software, quality control options such as scan verification and the overall “total package” that EDI and value added networks offer. A smoothly running warehouse operation can be attained for any retailer with the right programs and staff in place. Anyone who has ever worked in a warehouse can tell you that the pick and pack process can be a major stressor during high volume output times like Christmas or Black Friday, even with a good EDI system in place. But a warehouse without EDI that ships out to major retailers is a sinking ship in terms of pick and pack. Without the ability to generate packing slips in an orderly fashion so that packers can work in a sequential pattern will eventually generate a chaotic atmosphere. Warehousing any goods and distributing them to any retailer is made simpler and more efficient by the use of EDI. It isn’t just where the marketplace is going, EDI is how you get to the marketplace.
